Good to know

Best time to visit
The best times to visit the Kasbah of the Udayas are early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Morning visits, particularly between 8:30 and 10:30 AM, offer soft light, cooler temperatures, and fewer people in the alleys. In the late afternoon, between 4:30 and 6:30 PM, the warm sunlight enhances the blue and stone tones of the kasbah, making it ideal for photography. Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable climate overall. During summer, the interior can get hot due to the stone surroundings, and national holidays or Sunday afternoons tend to be the busiest times, especially with local families.

Accessibility
The Kasbah of the Udayas is partially accessible. While the main entrance through Bab Oudaia is flat and wide, the interior alleys are narrow, sloped, and paved with cobblestones. These conditions make it challenging for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, especially since there are no ramps, railings, or designated accessibility services. The Andalusian Garden, located within the kasbah, has flatter paths and several shaded benches, but it also features uneven stone surfaces. Visitors with strollers or mobility needs are advised to bring support if planning to explore beyond the garden.

Insider tips

Weekday mornings are the calmest time to visit if you want a peaceful experience. Local guards are often stationed at the gate, but they don’t check tickets since the kasbah is free to enter. While there are no cafés or snack shops inside, you’ll find a small tea vendor just outside the entrance where you can pause before or after your visit. For the best photo of Bab Oudaia’s monumental gate, step back into the street outside the entrance to capture the full façade. It’s also worth combining your visit with the Andalusian Garden, which offers a quiet break in a shaded space. Bring your own water if visiting in summer, as there are no fountains or shops inside the kasbah.
