59 Days Changed Everything

A woman went to close deals. She came back to open doors.

Petia in Morocco today, founder of Visit Morocco Tours
Petia before Morocco, in her London corporate life

01

Chapter one

The setup — Day 1

I arrived in Marrakech for seven days of business, with every meeting planned — then Day 1 made me question the life I had carefully built.

02

Chapter two

The realisation — Day 3

Ahmed showed me Morocco as home, not as a product; in that genuine connection, I saw both what tourism had lost and what I could rebuild.

03

Chapter three

The 59 days — the testing period

Back in London, I tested the conviction for 59 days, researched the industry and wrote the plan; by Day 59, my one-way ticket was booked.

04

Chapter four

The return — the commitment

I returned to Morocco to build journeys around transformation, not throughput — where real people, lasting connection and the soul of the experience come first.

Our founder story

From seven days of meetings to a one-way ticket

Visit Morocco Tours is a UK-registered company that designs private, tailor-made journeys across Morocco for individual travellers, companies and travel agencies. It was founded by Petia, a business strategist who came to Marrakech for seven days of meetings and went home with a decision. The company is new. The people behind it are not: our guides, drivers and suppliers bring 15+ years in Moroccan tourism.

Day 1· The setup

Day 1 · The setup

I landed in Marrakech on business.

Seven days. That was the plan. Scope out opportunities, close a few deals, fly back to London. The spreadsheets were ready, the meetings were booked, the return date was locked in.

I was trained for exactly this. A Master's in Business Management with Entrepreneurship. Years in operations, systems design and quality assurance. I knew how to assess risk, spot a gap in a market and build something that lasts. I was a strategist: I saw problems and structured solutions.

Day 1 went exactly to plan. A riad booked through an app. A guide booked through a tour operator. A medina ticked off like a checkbox. Everything optimised. Everything tracked.

“Day 1 was flawless. That was the problem.”

Day 3 · The realisation

On Day 3, I was in the medina with a guide named Ahmed.

He wasn't running a tour script. He was showing me something real: his neighbourhood, his people, his family's stories. Not Morocco-as-product. Morocco-as-home. He talked about the market seasons and the café politics, about his daughter studying to leave and how he hoped she'd come back. He shared it not because I'd paid for access, but because he wanted me to understand.

Somewhere between the mint tea and his stories about preserved lemons, something shifted.

“This is what I'm missing. Not the travel. Not the exotic backdrop. The realness.”

Conversations that weren't performed. Connection that wasn't transactional. And right behind it, a second thought: I could build this. Properly. I could see exactly what was broken in tourism (guides reduced to logistics, travellers treated as throughput, authenticity packaged and sold), and I could see how to fix it.

More than that, I didn't want to leave. By Day 3, I'd decided I was moving to Morocco. Except I had no savings, a mortgage and a job. So I did what a strategist does when the data looks too good to trust: I decided to test it first.

Day 59 · The test

This is the part people don't talk about.

I finished my seven days, flew home and lived my old life for 59 days, to see whether the conviction held when I wasn't on holiday. It held. Every meeting felt hollow. Every evening in my London flat, I scrolled through photos of Morocco like proof that real life was happening somewhere else.

But I didn't treat it as a holiday hangover. I treated it as data. I analysed the market and studied how destination management companies work: where they fail, and what travellers actually want versus what they're sold. I asked other travellers what had worked for them, and what hadn't.

And I realised I could do this properly. Not as a holiday fantasy, but as a real business serving three kinds of clients at once: individual travellers, travel agencies that need a reliable partner on the ground, and companies that want team experiences that genuinely work.

  1. Day 30Not homesick any more. Certain.
  2. Day 45A full business plan, drafted.
  3. Day 59A one-way ticket to Morocco, booked.

Day 60+ · The return

A one-way ticket isn't romantic. It's decisive.

When I landed, Ahmed was there. I told him I was coming back to build something real. Not for Instagram, not for profit alone, but for the same reason he shares his world: because it matters.

That's how Visit Morocco Tours began. The company is new; the people behind it aren't. I work with guides, drivers and suppliers who have spent 15+ years in Moroccan tourism, and who are trained, supported and fairly paid. Together we build every journey from scratch, for the person, the team or the client in front of us.

Who I actually am

Why a strategist runs a travel company

“I'm not a tour guide pretending to be a businesswoman. I'm a strategically trained businesswoman who fell in love with Morocco and decided to build something honest here.”

These aren't random qualifications. They're the disciplines it takes to build a travel company that actually works, for travellers, for partners and for the guides who make it happen.

What I do here: strategy, operations, systems design and digital growth (SEO is my language), and making sure we stay honest.

What guides us

Mission, vision and values

Our mission

To create genuine encounters that transform how people see themselves and the world.

We connect travellers, companies and travel partners with Morocco through guides who are storytellers, not logistics managers. No checkboxes. No performance. Just real encounters with real people.

Our vision

Tourism as a force for genuine human connection and positive change.

Where travellers leave transformed, guides are respected as experts and storytellers, and Morocco is understood rather than consumed. We're building it in Morocco first, and doing it right so others follow.

Five values, one filter

They decide what we say yes to, and what we turn down.

01

Authentic

We honour reality over performance.

Guides are chosen for their stories, not their scripts. Pricing is transparent, never hidden in add-ons.

02

Flexible

Your pace, your interests, your journey. Not our schedule.

Itineraries are customised, not templated. Routes change if a guide thinks you should meet someone. Pace matters more than distance.

03

Connected

Genuine human connection, above all else.

Shared meals, real conversations, real time with locals. We measure success by relationships built, not itineraries completed.

04

Trusted

We operate with rigour so you can travel with confidence.

Guides trained, insured and fairly paid. Risk management and contingency planning. Continuous quality assurance and ruthless self-auditing.

05The filter for every decision

Soulful

“The soul comes first.”

Not profit-first, not convenience-first. Every decision gets one question: does this honour the soul of the experience? If not, we don't do it.

Who founded Visit Morocco Tours?

Petia, a business strategist with a Master's in Business Management with Entrepreneurship (Distinction) and a background in operations, quality assurance and risk management. She came to Marrakech on a seven-day business trip, tested the decision for 59 days in London, then returned with a one-way ticket to build the company.

Is Visit Morocco Tours a registered company?

Yes. Visit Morocco Tours Ltd is registered in England and Wales, company number 16610456. We operate only in Morocco, with a local team on the ground.

Is Visit Morocco Tours a new company?

The company is new; the people aren't. Our guides, drivers and suppliers have 15+ years in Moroccan tourism, and every service runs to written quality and safety standards.

Who do you work with?

Individual travellers (couples, families, friends and solo travellers), companies planning incentives, retreats, team building and events, and travel agencies that need a reliable partner in Morocco.

Why this matters

Tourism is optimised for throughput. We're here to optimise for transformation. That's not a luxury add-on; it's the entire point.

Trade suits for dunes, and Zoom for bloom.

Not just tours. Tea, stories and connections that last longer than your luggage.

Wherever we go, the soul comes first.

That's not marketing language. It's how I've built this company, and what I came back to create.
