Day-by-day itinerary

Your driver meets you at Fez airport or your hotel and takes you to your riad. In the evening, a local guide leads you through the lanes of Fez el-Bali, the UNESCO-listed medina, as the souks wind down and the call to prayer echoes across the rooftops. A hammam, rooftop tea or Moroccan dinner can be added. Overnight in Fez.

Climb into the Middle Atlas to Ifrane, a surprising alpine-style town at around 1,650 metres, with red-roofed chalets, tidy parks and clean mountain air. Walk around its lakes and gardens, and visit the famous Stone Lion, then take the scenic mountain road to Azrou. Horse riding, an ATV ride or a cooperative visit can be added. Overnight in an Azrou mountain lodge. Drive: about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Begin with viewpoints along the Ziz corridor, where the mountains first give way to oasis country, then head north through farming villages to Sefrou. Visit the town and its waterfall before returning to Fez. A soak in the thermal springs of Moulay Yacoub can be added. Overnight in Fez. Drive: about 4 to 5 hours with scenic stops.
