Can I join this tour from Spain by ferry?

Yes. Fast ferries from Tarifa reach Tangier in about an hour, and your driver meets you at the port. We can end the tour at the port too.

Is this tour relaxing or busy?

Relaxing. The drives are short, from 45 minutes to 3 hours, with plenty of free time by the sea. It's well suited to couples, families and older travellers.

When is the best time to visit Asilah and the north coast?

May to October brings the warmest beach weather, and Asilah's summer arts festival fills the town with new murals. Spring and autumn are quieter and mild, and winter is cooler, with more rain.

Day-by-day itinerary

Your driver meets you at Tangier airport, the ferry port or your hotel. On your guided tour, explore the Kasbah and the whitewashed medina lanes, look across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain, and walk the Corniche by the port. Cap Spartel, the American Legation, a sunset café or a hammam can be added. Overnight in Tangier.

Follow the Atlantic south to Asilah, a small whitewashed town inside Portuguese ramparts. Your guide walks you through its medina, where artists repaint the walls with murals every summer, and along the sea walls at sunset. An art workshop, a horse ride or a camel ride on the beach, or a hammam can be added. Overnight in Asilah. Drive: about 45 minutes.

Continue through rural Atlantic farmland to Larache, a quiet fishing town with Spanish-era architecture above the Loukkos River estuary. Your guide shows you the medina, the old fort and the port. Nearby lie the ruins of Lixus, the ancient Phoenician and Roman city linked to the myth of the Garden of the Hesperides, which can be added, as can a seafood lunch or birdwatching on the estuary. Overnight in Larache. Drive: about 1.5 hours.
