Itinerary

Morning: The Winter Ascent

We leave Marrakech and climb into the High Atlas Mountains. The landscape shifts from ochre plains to frost-covered peaks. Along the way, you’ll see traditional Berber villages with clay and stone houses, terraced fields, and winding mountain passes. The Toubkal Massif rises ahead, North Africa’s highest range, offering dramatic vistas at every turn. Your driver, experienced in these roads, stops at key viewpoints so you can capture the mountain scenery.

Mid-Day: Snow & Sun on the Slopes

Arrive at Oukaïmeden, North Africa’s highest ski resort. You’ll see snow-covered slopes framed by jagged peaks, chair lifts, and alpine chalets. Ski, snowboard, or simply enjoy the views. We provide guidance on the best runs for your level and show where to relax with vin chaud or traditional Moroccan mint tea while overlooking the Toubkal range.

Afternoon: Beyond the Ski Lifts

For those who prefer a slower pace, we take a guided winter walk along trails with panoramic views of valleys and peaks. Along the path, you may spot ancient rock carvings and small shrines, evidence of centuries of travellers crossing the mountains. Snow-dusted apple and walnut orchards, traditional villages, and winding mountain streams create a serene backdrop.

Late Afternoon: Return with a Story

We descend back to Marrakech as the afternoon light highlights the peaks and valleys. You’ll return with the thrill of skiing in Africa, the memory of snow-dusted Berber villages, and a vivid sense of Morocco’s alpine landscapes.

Who This Tour is For

The Thrill-Seeker: You want the bragging rights of skiing in Africa and the genuine fun of a day on the slopes with a view unlike any other.

The Curious Explorer: You are fascinated by contrast. The idea of trading tagine for tartiflette and seeing the Atlas Mountains draped in snow is irresistible.

The Active Adventurer: You want to fill your lungs with crisp mountain air, whether carving down a slope or taking a breathtaking winter walk.

Physical & Practical Notes

The Altitude: Oukaimeden sits at over 2,600 metres (8,500 ft). The air is thin, and the sun is strong. Take it easy at first, stay hydrated, and wear sunscreen.

The Conditions: This is a seasonal experience. Snowfall varies. We provide honest, up-to-date conditions before you book and will suggest alternatives if the snow is not right.

Your Gear: Ski and snowboard rentals are available at the resort. Dress in warm, waterproof layers. For non-skiers, sturdy boots are essential for walking.

FAQ

What is the best time of year to go?
The ski season typically runs from December through March, with January and February usually offering the most reliable snow conditions. However, this is dependent on natural snowfall. We always provide honest, up-to-date conditions before you book.
Absolutely not. While skiing and snowboarding are the main draws, the stunning alpine scenery, crisp mountain air, and unique vibe of a Moroccan ski resort are experiences in themselves. Many visitors enjoy simply walking around, taking photos, and soaking in the surreal atmosphere.
For flexibility, equipment rental (skis, snowboards, boots) is not included in the base price. This allows you to choose exactly what you need. Rental shops are available at the resort, and our guide will assist you in securing your gear efficiently.
Despite the sun, temperatures can be at or below freezing. Dress in warm, waterproof layers, including a jacket, gloves, a hat, and sunglasses/goggles. Sturdy, waterproof boots are essential for everyone, not just skiers.
We are committed to providing an excellent experience. If conditions are poor, we will contact you in advance to discuss appealing alternatives, such as a trip to Imlil and the Atlas Mountains or another suitable adventure.
