Itinerary

Day 1

Accommodation

Night 1: Overnight in Marrakech

Your journey into the High Atlas Mountains begins with an immersive exploration of Marrakech. Your guided tour starts at the vibrant Jemaa el-Fnaa square, a UNESCO-listed spectacle of storytellers, musicians, and food stalls. You’ll then visit the iconic Koutoubia Mosque and its tranquil gardens, followed by the stunning Bahia Palace (entrance included), where you’ll explore serene courtyards and marvel at intricate Moroccan craftsmanship. The experience includes a delicious lunch at a local restaurant where you can savor authentic flavors. The afternoon offers free time to explore the souks before an evening at your leisure.

Day 2

Accommodation

Night 1: Overnight Imlil.

After breakfast, we depart for the High Atlas foothills. Our first stop is Tahanaout, a bustling weekly market town (market days vary) where you can observe local life. We continue to Imlil, a vibrant village and the primary gateway for trekking Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak. Here, you’ll meet your local mountain guide for a scenic guided hike to Aroumd (Aremd) village. This traditional Berber village, perched on a rocky outcrop, offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and peaks. You’ll visit a local family home for tea, gaining insight into the Berber way of life. The day ends with an included dinner at your guesthouse in Imlil.

Day 3

Marrakech

Wake up to the fresh mountain air and enjoy breakfast with a view. We begin our descent, stopping at Asni, another charming Berber village known for its picturesque setting and vibrant Saturday market (if your tour falls on a Saturday). Here, you can see local produce and crafts. We then return to Marrakech, arriving in the early afternoon. The rest of your day is free to relax, do some final souvenir shopping, or explore more of the city at your own pace before your departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difficulty level of the hike to Aroumd village?
The hike is considered moderate and takes about 1-2 hours on uneven mountain paths. It’s manageable for anyone with average fitness, but proper walking shoes are essential. The pace is leisurely with plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery.
You’ll stay in a comfortable 3-star guesthouse that offers basic amenities and authentic Berber hospitality. Rooms typically have private bathrooms, but remember this is a mountain village so facilities are simpler than in the city. The guesthouse provides stunning mountain views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Yes, modest dress is recommended. For both men and women, clothing that covers shoulders and knees is appropriate. Since you’ll be walking in the mountains, comfortable, sturdy shoes and layered clothing are essential as temperatures can change quickly.
