Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Tangier different from other Moroccan cities?
Tangier has a unique international heritage from its time as an international zone (1923-1956). You’ll notice stronger European influences in architecture, multiple language speakers (Spanish, French, English), and a distinctive cosmopolitan atmosphere unlike any other Moroccan city, shaped by writers and artists like Matisse and Bowles.
The Lixus archaeological site involves walking on uneven, rocky terrain with some inclines. While not wheelchair accessible, those with moderate mobility issues can manage the main areas with assistance. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are essential, and walking sticks can be helpful.
Cape Spartel marks the northwesternmost point of Africa and the dramatic meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The lighthouse offers spectacular views, and it’s a symbolic location where two continents nearly touch across the Strait of Gibraltar.
While Larache has Spanish influences, it’s still a conservative Moroccan town. Modest clothing is recommended when visiting the medina and public areas. For the Spanish Cemetery and Roman ruins, regular comfortable walking attire is appropriate.
While meals aren’t included in Tangier, your guide can recommend excellent local restaurants for fresh seafood at the port, traditional Moroccan cuisine in the medina, or the famous Cafe Hafa for mint tea with spectacular cliffside views over the Strait of Gibraltar.
